Our First Field Trip!

On Wednesday, October 14th the second grade traveled to the National Building Museum in Washington D.C.!

The trip was a huge success! The students enjoyed synthesizing their learning in our Social Studies unit by designing a model city.
*First we reviewed the different types of buildings that make a community: residential, commercial, industrial, institutional and open space.
*Next, each student built their own model of a building.
*Then we placed them together on a map in the right land use category to create a model of a city.

Thank you to all the wonderful volunteers who could make the trip with us. It wouldn't have been a success without you! :)

  1. I posted this before and just learned I did it on a blog archive for August. I did not see a response to it. Forgive me not knowing how to blog or post to a blog correctly. I had a couple of questions, first when is math homework turned into you and do you ask for it or do kids need to remember to hand it in. With my kids juggling between two homes sometimes things dont get done or turned in in time.

I was also wondering if you had a personal email I could email you something.

Thanks I apprecite you having this bog to update parents, I could not see if Mr. Milton had a blog like you do, do you know if he does.
    Again thank you.

  2. Mr. Croft,

I apologize for not catching your first response!

Math homework is turned in the day after it is assigned. The children place it in a bin labeled by the entrance to my room. I try to remind them daily as they enter my room to turn it in. Typically I don't check and mark the homework until the end of the week. I have found that it allows for students who forget to turn it in or complete it a night or two late to get it into me so I can count it. I understand that it doesn't always get done that night :)

As far as I know, no other second grade teachers have a blog.

    My e-mail is laura_shucosky@hcpss.org

I hope that helped. Thank you for participating in our blog!
